May and June shopping haul!

There are so many sales going on right now, they are absolutely amazing. I take huge pride in my closet and my style, I love going and buying new pieces to accentuate the pieces I currently own. I do not like spending money that much but I believe in quality so I always look in the sales racks of my favorite brands.

T.J.Maxx - I suppose I am a 'Maxxinista,' or whatever. My local store has been amazing recently because they are starting to bring in a load of preppy brands: Lilly Pulitzer (just accessories, not clothing unfortunately), Tommy H, Ralph L, Vineyard Vines, Kate Spade.

Shorts - Fifty Street; 2 travel wallets - Ivanka Trump and Kate Spade

Pink Narcissus- Lilly Pulitzer store in my town.

The Brielle dress, I finally bought it and  I am happy. I've already planned what shoes and bags I will use with it.

Look AT the detail to this Havana top. I do not need to wear a statement necklace.
Absolutely gorgeous, and it is silk. SO worth the money.

Banana Republic-  I am honestly not a huge fan of this brand but they had a nice sale where if you spend over $100 you get $50 off. I, of course, took advantage of it. Luckily for me they had a bunch of sweaters on sale, which I need for England. I also picked up a couple of belts to accentuate my waist. Since I have learned from the best aka, my momma. I chose already marked down items and made sure they calculated to just over $100 and then when I got to the register I let the savings commence. I spent $55 for 3 sweaters and 2 belts, which average all of my purchases to about $10 a piece. SCORE!

Classics for Men

For the past few months I have been approached by some of my male friends asking me to help them find
classic clothing pieces; that will last the passage of time and would shuffle them into the phase of adulthood as a gentleman.

First and foremost every man should invest in a good tailored suit. The colours black and navy are always classic and in style.

• Brooks Brothers- They are in the higher price range but they are known for their quality. They have been an American brand for over 100 years and have dressed many of our presidents. Wouldn't you like to look as good as president?
• Men's Warehouse- I don't know much about this brand but many of my newly graduated male friends came here to find their suits. According to their website tailoring is available!
• Macy's - It is considerably affordable when compared to the first two but is excellent quality as well. All one needs to do is find a tailor to ensure fit because I have never seen one there.

Second

• Bowties or Ties. I feel as though with this section it is about personal preference.I think a man should have both because on some events one is more appropriate than the other (in my opinion) Colours that are considered neutral and classic are the best, for example: black, grey, navy.

Third- Cardigans

• They are perfect for cooler weather and can be worn casually with jeans or more formal with dress pants. I have seen men wearing them under a suit jacket in the wintertime in lieu of a vest.
• One should invest in a Cashmere but one doesn't need too.
• You can really get this piece anywhere you choose.

Fourth- A white button down

• It goes with everything, get one long and short sleeve. I have seen more men with the long version and they roll their sleeves up. (Like in the picture above)
• Same as before you don't have to splurge on this piece unless you wish too. Almost everywhere has these, just make sure it is completely plain, don't get one from Express that has that emblem on it. That is plain tacky, we are going for classic here.

Fifth- Shoes

• Loafers
• Boat Shoes- Sperry's are fantastic, they get wet and they dry and they're are so comfortable. Believe me I am really picky about shoes.
• Working boots- for those who aren't scared to the get their hands dirty.

Sixth- Peacoat

• Also invest in a good one, you'll need to purchase a lint roller too

Seventh- Belt

• A brown or black leather belt and ALWAYS  ALWAYSSSS make sure they match your shoes

Eighth, last not least- Wallet

• A brown/black leather wallet, non-Velcro. Tommy Hilfiger/ Ralph Lauren are affordable options.

Tailgating/ Game ootd

Edit: I have noticed that many of my viewers are not American. So let me explain what it is, it is big (especially in the southern region of the U.S). It is essentially a party before the football (American) game. A group of friends, colleagues, family or whoever, they all meet up before the game and have an outdoor barbecue. There is food being cooked, drinks are being drunk and people are getting drunk. Everyone is wearing the team's colours. The reason it's called tailgating I believe is because usually everything is being held out of a pickup truck. About an hour or so before the game everything gets packed up and then everyone walks to the stadium for the game. It is an extremely fun event, I love it.

The Southern preps guide to packing for 6 weeks of Ireland's summer

Now to let you guys know my personal style is more preppy but in a southern sense.  Southerners are known for being very colourful with their outfits. The best example I can think of is Lilly Pulitzer, most of my items from her are not clothing but accessories because I like Tommy and RL for clothing. This is what I packed and wish I packed for the trip. It was an archaeology field school so my clothing options were limited and I wore certain clothes for the site and others for outings. Perhaps I'll do a post on what to bring for an archaeology site. I had to bring the large suitcase so I could have clothes to where for different occasions when not on site but the non-site clothes I brought would have fit into a carry-on.

I also brought a backpack with me which I carried on the plane. I had 2 shirts, a weeks worth of undergarments, some basic toiletries, and pair of shorts. I did this just in case my luggage got lost and I still had some clothes with me to get by until I could get it back. I learned that part through a friend's experience whose luggage got lost when en route to Italy.

I had brought 4 pairs with me. The boots I wore for site and some of the hiking I did around. Since they were bulky I wore them on the plane and a pair of Sperry in my backpack's bottle pockets.

I brought 2 swimsuits because the condo had a pool and I was planning trips to places where I could go swimming in the Lakes/Oceans. For Glendalough, Fowey, Tintagel.

2 AE Artist jeans, Adidas shorts, Yoga pants, AE shorts. I also wore the Adidas and Yoga for sleeping.

4 Button-up shirts; they're classic and in style no matter where you are in the world

A sweater, I also brought a raincoat with me.

4 regular shirts that are for nice dinners and lounging around

All in all I chose clothes that I could mix and match and make different outfits with, so I chose the colours to be blue, white and pink. All of which I could mix together and jeans, yoga pants go with everything. Don't forget your sunglasses, I brought wayfarers and aviators with Lilly Pulitzer croakies.

Shopping Haul

Okay honestly I love shopping. I have a lot of clothes and it is SUMMER in Florida. This means it is really time to store away those jeans and pants and only wear shorts.

Now I don't have any shorts that fit me well anymore, so I went shopping.

This is my haul for 5/17/2013. Yes this is late don't judge me.

Okay so I love sales, but I also love buying items that flatter my assets.

I got these shorts from Macy's for 29 a piece with a coupon on 2 separate purchases. Normally I would think it was too expensive but it's so hard to find shorts that flatter me so well so I went back and bought my favorite colours. For me this was my splurge

This I also bought from Macy's and with the coupon when I bought the blue shorts it was practically free. I have been wanting to buy a lace sleeveless top, this one is well made and isn't see-through. WIN! The coupon are the ones that you get in the mail for being a Macy's cardholder. They're quite good. Although you can't use it to buy Sperry's anymore. :(

American Eagle

This was on sale and it's Medium although it looks huge, I bought this for 12 bucks! Such a cute lounge around top. I can imagine me drinking a cup of sweet tea with this and some yoga pants on. Sweet Southern Comfort.

Now I got these 4 from TJmaxx. I am a Maxxinista! This was on clearance and it has these little bows on it! Cute! Then I have been looking for luggage tags and these were 3.99 for both, I don't have time to make any at the moment so these will suffice. Then a new water bottle, since I will be doing work in the field when in Europe I need more than 1 water bottle. Then I bought this luggage scale to make my life easier.

On-the-go wardrobe

Hello my dears:

Sooooo.
    I was speaking to my father today and he asked if I had started packing. It was in that moment I realized that I had forgotten that daunting task. I have to pack for 6 weeks; the most I have ever packed for. When I went to Montana last summer I had packed for 4 weeks and just reused certain items, but brought plenty enough undergarments in case I didn't have access to a laundromat, all that packed into a carry-on and a backpack.
     This time will be a little different, in part that it is an excavation, so I have to think about the clothes I will be wearing onsite and the clothes on the weekend. I essentially need different sets of clothing: work and for lack of a better word, fun.
     Now I am a notorious list maker.I love lists, I love planning, I love being given opportunities to do such a thing. This is why for the next trip with my friends I have told them I am making an agenda for us so that we can actually hangout at the same time together since we only see each other once a year.
     Anyway down to business. Luckily I am at university because I accumulate so many t-shirts, I don't have to buy one. You know those old ones that you sleep in and you got it from that club you went to one meeting to. Yea those, I've got 2 drawers full of those. I also never get rid of clothes, so my closet hanging space is quite tight, it's a wonder it hasn't exploded yet. BOOMMMMMM! Okay, my point is that I have a lot of old clothes, PERFECT FOR A DIG AND SLEEPING. ZZZZZZZ. So I pack all of those.
       Then for the weekend I need my decent and cute clothes. Now I have to think about the fact that people don't dress the same as in the States. I can't wear my daisy dukes and low cut shirts. So fashion has to be thought about. Now since I come from a semi-preppy background. Most of my clothes is preppy and mostly Tommy, Ralph and so on and so forth. I think I'll be okay. But sadly the weather is different than my normal Florida/ Bahamas weather. It will be raining a lot and not so warm. It'll be like Fall again. YAYYYY! Not.
      So I will be doing a video of things to take for a 6 week trip. But for now I will make a list. A very long list.

• Toiletries like toothbrush, toothpaste, makeup, makeup remover, loofah! I plan on buying soap and shampoo/conditioner over there to save weight and space. Since they'll most likely be left there.
• I'm bring a swimsuit. Just in case, you never know. Don't judge me I am Bahamian raised and go to school in Florida, I have a whole drawer full of swimsuits.
• Clothing- I am bring 2 pairs of gloves for sightseeing. 
• Scarves- they do wonders for outfits and can change an outfit up. So one less outfit to pack. You have to think about the space you have in your suitcase and want to bring only basics. I usually choose 3 colors and use those as a base to make my on-the-go wardrobe. See I incorporated the title. Fancy Schmancy. 
• Shoes- I will only bring 1 pair of heels- black. They go with everything and in case my buddies want a night on the town. I will bring 3 pairs of boots, one for hiking, one for fashion (jockey), and one pair of rain boots. 3 sperrys, 1 flatt, 1 pair of flipflops, 1 pair of slippers.
• In case I get invited on a date by a cute European. Ohhh la la! I will be bringing one night-time dress. But I will also bring 2 dresses for sightseeing and for going out with my friends.
• 2 raincoats, my anorak, a cardigan, and a jacket.
• Shirts- now this is the fun part. Since I have packed a lot so far, I will be mixing and matching. If I put a shirt over my dress it doubles as a skirt. A cardigan changes an outfit, scarf changes an outfit. Now add all of those together you have a new outfit. See what I mean about mixing and matching? So I'll pack maybe 5 shirts since I will only being wearing those of the weekend. I could go into how many probabilities I have of outfit but I won't.  Stick with basics: basic styles and solid colours. Or at least not too flashy, we want to look classy and fit in. Or as a Brit would say, 'Posh'
• Now pants, I'm sticking with regular jeans. Eh boring I know, but basic.
• Accessories: Bobby pins, Hair bows, headbands to keep your hair out of your eyes (great if your hair is dirty!), ribbons! Ribbons are great because you can use it to cinch your waist and to make a unique outfit!

Anyways I hope this list gives you an idea of what you should bring. I haven't decided on my colours yet, but I will get there when I begin the process. Also I think this list makes me sound as least touristy as possible, they're easily pickpocketed over there. Lucky for me I have spidey sense!
